while unveiling the * mutant tournament* quartet last year, label boss nachtbraker was quietly hunting for new music behind the scenes. being the fine huntsman he is, he came out of the woods with sonic bits and bobs so delectable he had no choice but to spread them out over two brand new quartets. thats right, eight records in total, to be released over the course of the next 18 months. were delighted to introduce you to scott franka, whos at the helm of the first missive. this creative head from amsterdam has been making music since the tender age of 11, but it wasnt until he adopted his scott franka moniker that he really found his groove.

already heavy hitters on the house music scene since their first releases back in 2012, waze & odyssey continue to carve out club burners with such ease, and their first release of 2017 finds a suitably fitting home on edible. the duo of firas waez and serge santiago have seemingly not put one step wrong in their ascendency within the house music circuit. be it releases for labels like wolf music, elrow or their own w&o street tracks, or remixes for the likes of disclosure, totally enormous extinct dinosaur and metronomy, w&o have found that knack of delivering sure fire winners time after time. already a staple in label boss eats everything�s dj sets, �down with tha� has all the hallmarks of a bona fide club classic, if the hyperactive drums and looping vocal refrain doesn�t draw you in enough, then the downright funky bass lick that prominently packs a punch really provides the killer hook. the, quite frankly, face melting breakdown surely seals the deal, and we are anticipating this cut to ring out loud across dancefloors over the coming weeks and months. competently propping up the release, �seizure� goes on a spacey, bongo odyssey (geddit?), serving up a rolling, dubby drum workout that culminates in a rather impressive snare roll breakdown that�ll have you frothing at the mouth. snatches of female vox and whistles are dotted around the galloping jungle drums, whilst the elevating key chimes provide the perfect musical lift. another slice of completely freshhouse music from w&o!

ltd warehouse found! from another mind, founded in 2014, presents its fourth and most capacious release to date. having started off initially as a south-german party series, this release sees commanders-in-chief shdw & obscure shape invite back previous guests from the clubnight, just this time using their talents as remixers to breathe new life into the first three much praised from another mind records.

the musical output by amsterdam trio s. m.nurse generated in just three years of activity, 1980 to 1983 is truly amazing by its volume and quality. the thats the body ep is their third release on domestica a selection of previously unknown tracks and unreleased versions on 12inch format, hand picked with one goal in mind: dancing! thats the body (1983) and on and off (1983) are first-ever releases. on side b, there s new versions of mort automatique (1981) and frutta (1982), previously found on the now expensive 30th anniversary: 1980-1983 album, released by domestica in 2013. edition of 450 copies. mastered from the original master tapes by ruud lekx.

marvin horsch debuts on berlins film with an ep of exquisitely produced, cinematic electronica. the cologne based producer develops the colourful house found on previous work for the dorfjungs la-bel, with three playful compositions that draw as much on jazz and krautrock as more contemporary strains of alternative electronic music. opener omnisession 1 marries a beautifully shifting organ with live drum work before segueing into the glorious softness of sun after rain, a rich synth solo drenched in tape hiss. closer negobebo 2 wraps up the ep an energetic, looping recording replete with staccato drum-machine strikes and warm, wet verbs carrying a spirited lead across its six minute duration. an honest record, open and expertly executed fukushisha is an admirable addition to the film cata-logue.

an object resists changing its state of motion with inertia. what pushes back must then be even more vigorous in order to create a uid movement. an example of the force that embodies this dynamic can be found clearly on the appropriately titled inertia, aiken�s much anticipated return to chronicle. the spanish artist has been spending years honing his craft, focusing on sharp, distinct sounds that create a pure sense of kinetic energy. the title track of the ep bolsters a erce disarray of carefully (de)constructed atonal synthwork and a rhythm section that is set to detonate. it is then followed by �axial�, a track that stays as true to modular miscalculations as it does to stripped down techno, combining both in a subliminal cessation of sanity. however aiken isn�t done there. he continues with �magnetism�, which throws a brick in the glass of conventionality with its earth-shaking layers of textured momentum. phased pads then wash over �soul drama�, bringing the entire experience to an emotionally laced denouement. after the potency of his last record on chronicle as well as his releases on imprints such as his own label timeline and the spanish powerhouse semantica, inertia marks a de nitive step forward for an already exceptionally de ned artist.

tommy mccook to be leader of the skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the supersonics house band at treasure isle. mccook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer bunny �striker� lee as a member of the aggrovators, the studio outfit lee hand-picked from the cream of jamaica�s musical crop. when enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of king tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. on king tubby meets the aggrovators at dub station, tommy mccook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by johnny clarke, cornell campbell, linval thompson, delroy wilson, and others greats. first issued on third world in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening. reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!

timely outing from two grand masters of exploratory electronics. kassel jaeger is the moniker of french musician françois bonnet who works at the grm and has released a number of books including the highly regarded the order of sounds, a sonorous archipelago published by urbanomic in 2016. jim o rourke is known to most through his explorations of the song and shapes, the high and low, the east and south. wakes on cerulean is a joint adventure where process folds upon process and the operation of procedure remains unknown. amongst a mysterious cloud of excited high frequencies tiny whistling howls. frog leaps in technique lay out a thrilling and uplifting journey that runs from the soothing to ecstatic and back to the buoyant again. wakes on cerulean is a staggering feast of the joys found in electronic process. a malleable bubble of hovering excitement, melody and joyous refrain.

paris, 1954. henri-françois rey wrote the thema of the piece la bande à bonnot and asked boris vian to write the songs in order it to become a musical comedy. la bande a bonnot was the name of a french illegal anarchist group. as soon as the piece was played at théâtre du quartier latin, french authorities made it being stopped. musical parts have been lost. 1971, jacques canetti has been told the original handwritten lyrics of the boris vian songs have been found again. jacques canetti asked louis bessières to re create music parts. 1975, jacques canetti released this record with songs being performed by judith magre, yves robert, lucienne vernay, pierre jamet, kim ibarra, maurice barrier & cécile vassort + 2 bonus tracks whose lyrics were suppsoed to be too for the original spectacle.

rote return to bleed for a second ep release on the label, the first of 2016. formed of daniel avery and label-head volte-face as an open-ended side project, the duo tend to adost an esoteric and experimental approach to techno, expressed in this case with 5 diverse original tracks. as solo artists, volte-face has appeared on svrecas semantica imprint as well as releasing 3 solo eps on bleed thus far. daniel avery is a high-profile fixture on club and festival bills, and is soon to be found contributing to the legendary dj kicks series. ep2 builds on the sound of the duo s debut ep, which was well supported in the underground, and remixed by experimental techno doyens dj nobu and svreca. featuring two heads down eyes closed club tracks, rote 3 and rote 4, two ambient excursions, lifted and sun at night (the latter of which would be equally at home on a psychedelic rock lp!) and a lilting melodic closer, end of the sky

over the years jim coles has turned his hand to a fair few different styles and made them his own. these days, most know his om unit alias as a significant force in fresh developments within d&b (recently found larking about with alix perez, binga and more in the richie brains project on exit records), but it s not always been that way.

i admit i wasn�t familiar with this album, so many just pass us by, but as i sat back and listened, i slowly realized that this isn�t just any soul lp, it�s a masterpiece, full of passion and tenderness, it was like a huge hug from long lost lover... beautiful... enjoy it!

tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino

tom hang is the solo electronic work of lobster theremin label owner jimmy asquith. despite being ridiculously busy either quaking dancefloors across the globe and flowing into the world a continuous catalogue of acclaimed electronic heat, jimmy has found time to follow up his �tidy bedroom versions� release with more original tracks from the heavily dusted harddrive.

under the moniker shed, pawlowitz published three highly ambitious albums in which he defined his work more and more as his own way of musical narration. the final experiment? is definitely the temporary highlight of this evolution. as musical work it does establish shed conclusively as one of the most interesting and substantial electronic music artists of our time. it carries a vibe, that links shed to other boundary breaking artists such as ryuichi nakamoto, brian eno and carsten nicolai. however, shed found a way to develop a highly individual way of communicating electronic music, that is self-sufficient. the last experiment is a mostly homogeneous piece of work, a meditation, where the stylistic confusion seems less important than then musical statement that it represents.

returning to hypercolour with a second volume of his sugar cane chronicles, gary gritness lays down more devastating funk and classy riffing over his trusty roland 606. after the first volume, released last april, sold out its vinyl run, gritness delivers more explorations and adventures into his unique and soulful world. having elusively built his reputation as an outstanding session player, live producer and fantastically dressed funkateer, gritness has delivered a handful of releases on labels like clone crown ltd, nyami nyami and his own diy and cassette-only slikk tapes. steady choosin gets downright fusion-jazz and gritness fires out seductive melodies and latin piano playing of the highest order whilst countin up with starr delves into a darker well of synth mania, with a sexual groove reminiscing of rick james, all the while retaining garys signature licks and riffs. runner joes revenge on the flip ramps up the hysteria for a gritty and colossal production that typifies his love of cyberpunk soundtracks and the drama and narrative to be found in this style. the sugar cane chronicles vol. 2 closes with the low-slung pool shark loot wrapping up on a mysterious and captivating tone, its wandering bassline and melodic touches carrying all the signature gritness sounds, with the p-funk sleaziness on top.

awa poulo is a singer of peulh origin from dilly commune, mali, near the border with mauritania. largely pastoral and often nomadic, peulh- (or fula-) speaking peoples are found from senegal to ethiopia but predominate in the sahel region of west africa.

failsafe is a new label created by, and primarily for the release of, material by juxta position, whos output was previously featured on rhythm nation, and on dvs1s mistress recordings imprint. juxta position first came to the attention of the electronic music world in 2013, with the release of juxta position vol 1 on mistress. this debut release contained the widely popular track mercy, which was featured on midlands ra mix, licensed to deetrons fabric 76 dj mix release, and found its way into the crates of many different djs across the spectrum of house and techno. inaugurating the first failsafe release, juxta position delivers two slices of upfront hypnotic techno, custom made for cutting edge djs to provide maximum dancefloor damage.

the national park of saxon switzerland in eastern germany, south-east of dresden offers endless ways to have a great hiking journey. the 93km region between pirna and the czech border is one of the most beautiful landscapes in europe. more than 700 summits are available to rock climbers, while for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there are 400 km² of marked hiking-trails, steep treks, paths and some cycle routes through the national park. in this area, called the erz mountains, we found our beautiful cover stone with a typical ore layer inside.

life garden was formed in phoenix, arizona during the fall of 1989 by george dillon, su ling and w. david oliphant. the group was the reinvention of post-industrial band maybe mental (1982-1987) and delved into an ineffable territory, where language failed, their music found root. yogi says tip! life garden s sound focused on creating a space that would transcend people to a world of beauty, intensity and mystery. each release was loosely guided by one member, caught between the tapestry of silence and beauty (1991) was focused towards the poetry and vocals of george dillon who sadly passed away after the completion of the album.

nice price deal !!! airhead continues to impress and confound with his run of releases on r&s. his last release >wait/south congress< found itself gaining praise right across the board. it showcased his atmospheric guitar styles as well as his deft programming skills, resulting in some trying to pigeon-hole his sound in a post rock/electronica direction. this ep proves it not that easy to pin him down with two new tracks of fresh club music. pyramid lake again showcases his expert manipulation of samples, but this time weaves them into a drunken dance groove, full of whirring percussion and heavy bass. black ink is a bubbling, percussive roller that in the hands of a lesser producer would sound like a traincrash. it bounces along almost out of control and sucks you into its charms until it hits you with some uplifting, haunted chords, at which point it is impossible to resist.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. on its second release, the fresh label eating records, native of brussels, embarks us on its most unlikely underground journey yet .the new project includes two beautiful tracks from the deep flows of house music, from the unfamous talented producer from kiev, io (mulen). there s no point in trying to place io or his music in some larger social picture. no need to talk about his intensive production. his successful releases can be found on imprints such as rejected (joris voorn), propaganda (nastia), elarum and his own mulen records which he started in 2012 and that released his stunning debut album within 2013. on flutes/creeps ep, he thrives on fantastic impossibilities including flutes and deep melodic basses. it is obvious that mister io had a wonderful time making the two tracks. flutes comes up as victorious and gallant. it is an energizing shock full of curious noises, mesmerizing musical surprises, a real dancefloor track. creeps is discreet and dark, and remains beautifully deep. this track finds io wrenching as much sweetness out of it as he possibly can, in return giving us our first indication that he is in a generous spirit. when this ep comes to an end, it feels like getting back from a good vacation: the last thing you want to do is re-enter the real world.
